2008-09-01 IPP Logipal secures sweet new deal

The ability to deliver a flexible solution was a key factor to leading one-way trip pallet rental specialist, IPP Logipal, winning a major new contract with Tangerine Confectionery, one of the leading names in UK confectionery.

The Tangerine product portfolio includes children's classic MOJO chews, Taveners Proper Sweets and Princess Marshmallows, and with the recent acquisition of Monkhill from Cadbury, the Butterkist popcorn brand and the iconic Barratt Sherbet Fountains have been added to the mix.

As a keen advocate of British manufacturing, Tangerine produces all its brands in the UK, which also ensures control and security of supply, as well as minimising food miles.

To compliment its efficient manufacturing process, the confectionery producer enlisted the expertise of IPP Logipal's simple one-way pallet service to deliver its products to supermarket retailers and convenience stores across the UK and Ireland.

IPP Logipal's nationwide operation makes daily deliveries from its Widnes, Newport and Nuneaton depots to all of Tangerine's seven UK distribution centres. This involves over a quarter of a million pallets trips per year.

Once utilised, pallet collections are arranged by IPP Logipal, with inspections carried out matched to KPI (key performance indicator) criteria, ensuring customers receive consistently high-quality pallets.

Group supply chain manager at Tangerine, John Smith, comments: "Following a number of acquisitions in the last few years our brand has grown significantly, which has resulted in increased activity in our supply chain.

"Having previously used a mixture of pallet providers, we looked into sourcing this to a single supplier. We established that IPP Logipal's competitive price and ability to deliver bespoke solutions to a geographically fragmented customer base, regardless of size, was an unbeatable combination.

"IPP Logipal's simple solution to pallets makes the entire process easier to manage, making our service to customers much more efficient."

IPP Logipal is part of the Faber Halbertsma Group, which has a turnover of £200 million. The UK&I operation was established in 2005 and the company specialises in providing a high quality pallet service to the FMCG (fast moving consumer goods), retail and electronic sectors. IPP Logipal is a member of Timcon - the timber packaging and pallet confederation.
