2008-09-05 Reward offered after pallets fire

A £2,000 reward has been offered to help catch and prosecute arsonists who set light to a pallet yard in Wrexham.

The blaze at Wrexham Pallets last month caused £100,000 worth of damage and temporarily closed the A483 road.

The compound was set alight at about 2000 BST on Wednesday 20 August.

Det Con Steven Jones said CCTV footage was being examined, adding: "Any bit of information will be helpful no matter how insignificant you may consider the detail."

He said: "We are determined to resolve this investigation and I would like to hear from anyone who may have information in relation to this arson attack to contact us.

"If you were in the area at the time of the incident, or if you have any information please come forward.

"It could be very important to our investigation and a reward is being offered for any information that leads to conviction."

A spokesman for the company, which is based on the Rhosddu Industrial Estate, said: "The people responsible have no idea how much damage they have caused and how much inconvenience they have caused to local businesses.

"We are hoping that this reward will encourage anyone who may have information to contact police so that the offenders can be brought to justice."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wrexham CID on 0845 6071001 (Welsh), 0845 6071002 (English) or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
