2008-09-08 Man crushed to death by wood pallets at Valley business

PHOENIX -- A man was crushed to death by falling pallets at a custom woodworking shop in Phoenix Friday morning.

The 46-year-old man, his 19-year-old son and other employees were moving pallets at Carlton Custom Wood Works near 31st and Clarendon avenues.

About 2,000 pounds of wood came crashing down on the man, whose name has not been released.

The son and other workers pulled the wood off of him, but he was dead.

"When our companies arrived on scene, the father was laying with his head in his son's lap, so it's a pretty sad incident," said Phoenix Fire Capt. Courtney Jenkins. "And, unfortunately, he was deceased upon our arrival."
