ASDA has appointed pallet distributor Pall-Ex as its nominated carrier for its smaller consignments of up to three pallets.
Under the terms of the contract, Pall-Ex will collect products from ASDA suppliers across the UK and transport these back to Pall-Ex purpose-built £12 million hub in Leicestershire.
A key factor in securing the deal for Pall-Ex was the quality of food storage it could offer. Asda's Head of Central Logistics, Simon Pearson, explained: "In our search for a partner in this sector, the quality of the facility was as important as cost, and the Pall-Ex hub in Leicestershire is clearly aligned with the standards of hygiene we require for the handling of ambient food lines."
Simon Pearson will be talking about ASDA's approach to delivering more sustainable, cost-effective and operationally efficient transport solutions at IGD's Supply Chain Summit, alongside Doug Gurr, ASDA's Director of Strategy, Logistics and New Business.
